Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Assist and prepare with Canadian corporate tax engagements such as; advice on tax planning opportunities, tax minimization strategies, and compliance issues
- Accountable for the completion of tax engagements by computing taxes owed, corporate tax returns, year-end tax forms (T4s/T5s), calculating/reviewing share capital, and ensuring compliance with government standards.
- Perform and execute basic tax reorganizations.
- Create files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses.
- Perform journal entries.
- Provide bookkeeping services.
- Aid in the review of legal documents.
- Aid clients and various government agencies to address tax compliance issues.
- Perform and execute technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining findings, facts and highlights.
- Analyze and review discrepancies/ irregularities in financial entries, documents and reports.
- Identify technical issues with manager or engagement partner.
- Update manager or engagement partner on the progress of engagements.
- Become knowledgeable with Canadian Income Tax Act and related legislation.
- Aid with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas, materiality and deadlines.
- Perform high quality control by reviewing tax returns and other work done from other team members for accuracy and completeness.
- Supervise project timelines against targets, adjust where necessary.
- Aid in the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
- Liaise and correspond professionally with clients, colleagues and the firm leadership team.
- other accounting duties as required.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or CFE.
- 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience in public accounting and/or tax consulting.
- Strong knowledge/ experience working in Public Accounting or Tax.
- Solid understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles.
- Working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act.
- Expert at preparing and analyzing domestic tax compliance and implementing tax reorganizations.
- Experience working with accounting and tax software such as Caseware, Profile, Quickbooks and Simply Accounting.
- Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Some travel may be required.
